After a huge win on Saturday, February 22, the Benilde-St. Margaret’s Boys’ Hockey team advances to section finals on Wednesday, February 26 at 6 pm at Mariucci.

The BSM boys’ hockey team began their first section game on Thursday, February 20th against the Academy of Holy Angels (17-8) at home, beating them 6-4. With short recovery time, the BSM boys’ hockey team meets again with Cretin-Derham Hall this past Saturday, February 22nd.

Earlier in the season, Cretin-Derham Hall defeated BSM 4-1 at the TRIA Rink, which is the Minnesota Wild practice facility and rink. Taking what they learned from this game, BSM knew they had to give it their all on Saturday’s game. Coming in with a record 16-7-2, BSM did what they need to do and stepped up the plate and beat Cretin- Derham Hall (19-5-1) with 2-1 win. BSM showed no mercy.

This Wednesday, February 26th, BSM plays Blake (19-6), who is seeded #1 in their section at Mariucci. The last encounter the teams had together was on Tuesday, January 21st, where BSM overcame Blake with a 2-1 win. “I am really excited for the game on Wednesday just being back where we were last year and having another shot to go to the tourney is amazing. I think our team is really focused and prepared because we only get one shot at this and everyone will definitely give it everything they’ve got, I feel like since we beat blake already once this year they will be scared and intimidated by us which is definitely a huge advantage,” junior Jackson Bisson said.

Before the big game on Wednesday, the BSM boys’ hockey team left school early on Monday to practice at Bloomington Ice Garden and on Tuesday, the team will be practicing at Champlin Ice Forum to get the feel for a big rink, before heading to Mariucci. “Our team is preparing for the game on Wednesday by watching film, seeing how they run the forecheck and how the attack in the neutral zone. We are also looking at the power play and their top lines that can produce plays against us, ” sophomore Brady Yakesh said.
