A new Netflix film, Roommates, was just released and produced by Adam Sandler’s production company. Roommates is number one on Netflix’s top-ten movie list. This movie is full of wit and comedy. I enjoyed the overall vibe and spunk of this movie, which follows the life of a new college student named Devon. Devon has had a hard time making friends and meets a cool girl named Celeste. They end up becoming friends, but it turns into them hating each other.
I felt like this movie was a bit cringey and unrealistic at times, even though I enjoyed it overall. Some of the scenes are unrealistic in college life, and some of the actors’ lines and relationships are hard to watch. However, there were moments in this movie that made me laugh. I also enjoyed how the plot centered on the college principal telling two new freshmen about Devon and Celeste’s relationship. This added to the drama and plot, as I could see the freshmen’s reactions to the story. My favorite part of the film was where Devon and Megan Thee Stallion, a famous rapper, appeared together. It was a really funny and light-hearted part of the film.
For me, it was interesting to watch this movie, as I am going to college in a couple of months. It was intriguing to see the roommates’ dynamics and how quickly a friendship can turn into a bad relationship. In general, I found the film entertaining and a relatable depiction of college friendships. I enjoyed the comedy and Sadie Sandler’s acting as Devon. She really stepped into the role of a quiet, young, shy college freshman looking for a new beginning. However, I thought the ending was abrupt, and I wish there were more leading up to it. I just felt like it wrapped up too quickly, and I wish I could have known more about the two roommates’ lives by the end of the film.
Overall, I thought this movie was a good watch, just something that is a good distraction. I was just looking for a light-hearted movie that was relatable to me. I would recommend this movie for younger teens, but it was also interesting to watch as a senior in high school, seeing how they depict college students and life.
