BSM girls’ hockey is getting ready for their upcoming season. Senior captains Sally Calengor and Grace Juckniess talk about their goals for the team and how they are going to make it their best season yet.

The team’s goals consist of having a strong team both on and off the ice, making it to state, and keeping a winning record. “We really want to challenge the good teams in the league and we just want the girls to come off the ice proud of the efforts that they put forward,” Calengor said.

To achieve these goals the captains are making sure that everybody shows up and it there to put their best foot forward. A key aspect to accomplishing their goals Juckniess says making rules in the locker room is key to their goals. “We have a lot of small rules we are trying to incorporate like keeping out lockers clean and hanging jerseys, the more rules we have the more that the process comes together,” Juckniess said.

Different from last season, the captains are trying to bring together the team a lot more. “There is more of a team environment and less individualism and so it’s really nice to see kids step up and play for the kid next to them,” Calengor said.

This approach shows that it works too. The team has shown some of their competitors what they can do. “We just have to clean up a couple mistakes, the team is really starting to produce and people are more focused on ‘team’ goals and getting ‘team’ assists instead of just individual ones,” Calengor said.

Girls hockey hopes to continue to use these tactics to have a successful year and to satisfy their goals. “We are definitely going to surprise some teams this year…I think we will give them a run for their money,” Juckiness said.
