Four wrestlers compete at State tournament

Last weekend, a year after eight Red Knights traveled to the State tournament for wrestling, only four made the trip this time. BSM wrestlers Jameer Anderson, Logan Kass, Seoulec Gunvalson, and Zach Bigelbach qualified for State. Senior Blaise Fitzgerald did not make it to State due to “illegal slamming”, which disqualified him from a State run. “I was pretty disappointed since I didn’t feel that I had committed the penalty”, Fitzgerald said. “But we had two place winners and only sent four people to State so half of our guys placed.” The two place winners were Seoulec Gunvalson, who placed second in the 138 pound weight class and Logan Kass, who placed third in the 152 weight class, both of whom are Seniors and finished their careers as winners.
Benilde- St. Margaret’s wrestling team had a successful season going 2-0 in the conference and 8-4 overall. They lost in team sections but sent people to individual sections and of those four remained at State. Two place winners of four competitors is good, but the BSM wrestling team is headed for great things beyond 2015.
