This past weekend, the BSM speech team attended the Apple Valley Minneapple Speech Tournament, imperative to competitors in National Categories, with participants coming from across the country. Many students were successful and brought home awards. In novice categories, Carson Knoer, Colin Sheeley, Payton Turner, and Katie Marusich finaled in Prose, Original Oratory, and Drama categories, respectively. Andy Hudlow was champion of the Novice Discussion category.

The team had three Honors Varsity finalists as well, with Parker Breza awarded 6th place in Extemporaneous Speaking, Sarah Karels awarded 6th place in Original Oratory, and Molly Eldevik declared champion of the Honors Varsity Great Speeches Category. Maura Brew is the Speech Team Coach. “It is a huge tournament. Certainly the biggest one that we go to, and given that this is only our second official tournament of the year in a season that had been very difficult thus far because of disrupted school days and missed classes, I think we did remarkably well,” Brew said. They hope to find similar successes at the upcoming Armstrong tournament.
