After finishing second in conference championships last season, the girls’ swimming and diving team looks to improve this year and ultimately win the North Suburban Conference title.

After losing only one senior from last season, the swim team maintains a high caliber group of upperclassmen. “I think our team is going to be very successful this year. We currently have 12 seniors who are all very determined,” senior Emily Egge said.

Not only are the seniors ready to win their meets, but there are some promising freshmen who joined the team this year. “Natalie Sims and Grace Hedin are really showing great potential and will definitely be fun to watch this season,” Egge said.

The swim team finished as runners-up in the 2011 section championships. “Our goal this season is to win the conference championship title,” junior Anna McGinn said.

“Everyone’s goal is to go to varsity sections or make it to state,” junior Megan Pohle said.

Skill won’t be something that holds the girls back from achieving their goals this season, as the roster comprises just under 50 talented swimmers and divers. “This year we have the biggest team we have ever had in the history of the swimming program. With so many new and young swimmers this year, it will be a lot of fun to compete in meets this year,” McGinn said.

This tight-knit team hosted many bonding activities over the summer, and has continued them into the school year. “Before meets our team usually goes to Noodles or Bruegger’s and eat together and do homework, which is always a ton of fun,” McGinn said.
