Four BSM junior boys decided to start their own podcast called Backyard Sports, where they talk about current sports topics.

If you’re looking for the latest events happening in the sports world, Backyard Sports is the podcast for you. A couple weeks ago, juniors Sam Broglio, Andrew Walters, Nick Palmer, and John Robbins, started the Backyard Sports podcast to keep people in the know.

The four juniors found themselves talking about sports topics a lot and finally made the decision to take their conversations to the next step. “We were actually sitting in Nick Palmer’s hot tub when we were talking about sports. Sam and I were in the middle of a heated Vikings-Packers debate. Then we decided it’s probably better to settle this in the podcast field rather than in the hot tub. It’s this way to bring this knowledge and just overall wealth to the world,” Walters said.

The podcast is centered around current sports topics and occasionally brings special guests on. “We normally talk about sports that are professional like basketball, hockey, football, golf, and stuff like that, but we are willing to look into some secondary sports like pickle-ball soon,” Walters said.

When they finally decided to create this podcast they had to decide on a name. “We wanted to be unique. We started out as Sports Zone, but there’s about 100 sports podcasts with that name. So we changed it to Backyard Sports to be a little more unique,” Walters said.

As the podcast has started to grow, many people have been able to listen on multiple different streaming services. “The main places we are on are Spotify and Apple podcasts but we can also be found on Pandora and Amazon music,” Broglio said.

Many other people help the boys promote and run the podcast as well. “Our social media manager is Maddie Kaltsas. She’s really helping us grow by establishing more of a platform and a fan base. She takes care of making the connections and doing the Instagram posts, so that’s really helpful,” Walters said.

As they get more and more listeners, the four boys have big plans for the future of their podcast. “We plan to keep making more and more episodes into the summer here and we’re hoping to launch a merchandise brand coming up soon in the future. So look out for that,” Broglio said.
