BSM Students and their grandparents enjoy breakfast.

On October 7, BSM welcomed grandparents of students grades 7-12 to a morning mass and breakfast. Grandparents were able to spend time with their grandchildren and explore the BSM building.

Mary Fran O’Keefe, director of Alumni Relations, who has helped plan this event for many years, knows it is a very special experience for the grandparents. “Grandparents are kind of a big deal in our community. A lot of them help pay student tuition and a lot of them are major contributors and [they are] just part of our big family,” O’Keefe said.

The event started around 8 am and wrapped up around 10. There was a photographer at BSM throughout the morning so students and grandparents were able to take a picture to remember this special day. Following the mass, students and grandparents were treated to a breakfast. “There will be seating in the library, the [College and] Career Center, the Great Hall, the commons cafeteria and the Cube,” O’Keefe said.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, BSM has not been able to host Grandparent’s Day for the past two years. O’Keefe is excited for all the new spaces BSM has to show. “The Cube is something that will be very new to the grandparents. Also we will have valet parking for the first time… for the over 700 grandparents [attending],” O’Keefe said.

My favorite part was when I got to show my grandparents around the school. I think that my grandparents had a good time because they enjoyed the mass,

Junior Brooklyn Miller was able to attend the event with her grandparents and was very fond of all the events planned. “I enjoyed being surrounded by so many grandparents and their grandkids and getting to know new people that sat by us while eating the food,” Miller said.

Miller was very excited to show her grandparents around the school. “I think they really enjoyed it when I showed them the atrium. They were very eager to see what it looked like. They also really enjoy seeing the [main parts] of the school and what I get to [experience] every day,” Miller said.

Junior Gus Bell was also able to be at the event with his grandparents. “My favorite part was when I got to show my grandparents around the school. I think that my grandparents had a good time because they enjoyed the mass. They also really enjoyed the breakfast and being able to meet some of my friends,” Bell said.
