Boys’ hockey defeats Elk River/Zimmerman

In their second meeting of the season, the Red Knights anticipated another close game with the top-20 ranked Elks. The game did not meet expectations, as Benilde-St. Margaret’s outskated, outhustled, and outscored Elk River en route to a 9-1 victory.

Junior Evan Fleming gave the Red Knights a 1-0 lead just under six minutes into the first period, firing a wrist shot past Elks goalie Maclean Berglove. Junior Spencer Naas added to the lead under a minute into the following period, a goal which would hold on to be the game-winner. Naas ended the night with a hat trick along with senior Grant Besse. “It was good to put up a lot of points, especially against a top-ranked team like Elk River.” Fleming said.
