Rematch of state game ends in a tie for girls soccer team

The rematch of the girls’ class A state final lived up to expectations in a thrilling display of talent, resulting in a 1-1 draw with rival The Blake School.

The Red Knights opened quickly with a goal only four minutes into the first half by sophomore forward Jordan Maddaus. Energized by the opening goal, the Red Knights created a number of scoring chances for the next five minutes.

The final 20 minutes of the first half and the opening 20 minutes of the second half didn’t hail too much action as both teams struggled to get scoring chances, silencing the formerly rowdy BSM student section.

With about ten minutes remaining in regulation, the crowd started to get antsy again, and with just 7:25 left in the game, the Bears tied it up 1-1 with a goal. During the final seven minutes of the game, the scoring chances from both sides picked up in a desperate effort for a win.

Senior goalie Angela Charley had a game saving save in the final minutes, sending the game to extra time. In an exhausted effort, neither team had much success generating chances in extra time, as the repeat of the state championship from a season ago, ended in a 1-1 draw.
