After much thought and consideration, religion teacher Joe Pedersen has announced his decision to enter the seminary. Pedersen will depart for Notre Dame Seminary next fall.

Entering the seminary is not something Pedersen has always planned on doing. “During college I was introduced to a lot of great priests, and they showed me how good and happy that life can be. I have been thinking about it since then, but through my prayer and discernment I have come to believe that I need to explore that possibility now,” Pedersen said.

As of right now, he has not made a definite decision to enter the priesthood. Pedersen hopes to discern God’s plan for him. “I wouldn’t go to the seminary if I didn’t think that becoming a priest was an option, but I am not certain what the future will hold. I want to go to the seminary to spend some serious time thinking and praying,” Pedersen said.

Pedersen is thankful for the BSM community’s encouragement in announcing his decision. “Some people have been surprised, but mostly the reactions have been very positive and supportive. People in this community are very good about wanting what’s best for each person. Going on to something new always means leaving something else, and this is no different. I will miss all the wonderful people I’ve gotten to know here,” Pedersen said.

Pedersen is excited to see what the future holds. He is excited to deepen his knowledge and love for the Catholic Church. “For a long time I’ve loved the Church. I love the work of the Church, the Sacraments, the service. I’ve also had a feeling that I’m called to serve the Church. I’m not exactly sure what that service will look like, but I’m open to the possibility that it might mean giving my whole life in service,” Pedersen said.
