The recent trend that can be seen across the halls at Benilde-St. Margaret’s is the “Superpuff” jackets and vests from Aritzia. The line was launched in 2017 and gained major popularity in 2024. These jackets and vests come in a variety of lengths, colors, finishes, and features. They can be easily identified by their iconic “S” logo on the hood. There is a lot of hype around these jackets and vests, which are said to be super warm and comfortable. Superpuffs are everywhere throughout BSM, yet are they truly worth the hype?
The Superpuff line became very popular in 2024, largely due to TikTok and other social media platforms. The Superpuff fixation contributed to rising sales in Aritzia’s overall sales revenue as well; these jackets and vests cost around 175 to 250 dollars. The influence of this trend is unavoidable and can be seen everywhere. At BSM, if you see someone wearing a jacket or vest, it is typically a Superpuff. Sophomore Julia Kocourek states her opinion on the Superpuff line and its influence throughout BSM, “Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot of Superpuffs all over the halls, especially after Christmas break. I feel like everyone has one now, either the coat or the vest, and I think they definitely sparked. And with that, a lot of people are getting different colors so they can match their outfits,” Kocourek said.
There is no doubt that the Superpuff jackets and vests are popular, but whether they are worth purchasing is the real question. Many students can be seen wearing Superpuffs daily, especially as the winter season begins to get colder and colder. For students, not only are the jackets and vests stylish, but they are also comfortable and warm throughout Minnesota winters. “I think it’s worth it, especially how cold it gets in Minnesota. The price is kind of high, but I feel like it’s really worth it,” sophomore Gretta Kocourek said.
When asking a variety of people with Superpuffs on, if there were any cons to the outerwear, the majority of students said there were none. Instead, many students highlighted the features Superpuffs have that make them live up to the hype. Sophomore Jessica Byer shares her favorite features of her jacket, “There are so many pockets, so I can store so much, and it’s also super warm; I’ve never been cold in it. And the hood is removable if you want it off,” Byer said.
Although the positives of the line outweigh the negatives, there was one con that was mentioned by sophomore Maggie Sorenson. The shape of the jackets and vests is definitely “boxy,” which some may like or dislike. Sorenson describes how her jacket fits and how the shape of it is a downside of it. “I like it, but sometimes it can make you look like a box,” Sorenson said.
Whether seen as a fashion statement or pure comfort, around BSM, Superpuffs are well-liked and desired by students. While some may question if they are worth the hype and price, others believe the many features and overall coziness make the price reasonable, especially for dropping temperatures in Minnesota. As social media continues to promote Superpuffs, they continue to take the halls of BSM by storm.
