Studying is an essential part of a Benilde-St. Margaret’s student’s life, but deciding what spot is best makes for a difficult decision.
The Cube is the center for all things tech, but across the room from the Tech Help Desk, there is a series of booths against the wall. Morning, afternoon, and evening, they make for a comfortable spot to grind out an essay or just chat with friends. The space is in the center of the school, making for a good social spot. Aside from the booths in the Cube, there are also a number of desks and high-top tables. The tables are situated near the Tech Help Desk, making it convenient for students to ask questions and solve problems among their peers. The Cube offers a variety of spots to use for school work or hanging out with friends, and the convenience of the area is hard to beat.
Mr. Cohen’s room makes for a great early morning study spot. Often, he has Breakfast Club, where he invites students to come watch movies in his class before school starts. His energy is inviting, yet he is an excellent motivator to help someone get their work done on time and with good quality of work.
In the mornings, the lunchroom is a buzz, making for a great morning cram session spot. The coffee machine is up and running early in the morning, so the smell of coffee fills the air. If someone can’t study without a bag of chips or a fun drink, Taher is ready to serve. It offers potato wedges that are to die for, and a wide variety of beverages. The social aspect of the lunchroom is like no other, but the morning crowd appears to be a little more laid back.
After school, the library is open decently late, just long enough to get some work done right after school. A commonly sought-after spot in the library is the chairs near the front windows. The sunlight is inviting, and the chairs make for a cozy study spot. The environment itself is quiet, but with the Writing Center within the library, it can make for a great, pleasant place to finish an essay or cozy up with a book.
The atrium is the newest addition to BSM, with modern skylights and a variety of optimal places for studying. Pillows are scattered around the area’s different tiers, making it feel modern, yet comfortable. The skylights are warm and give students a dose of energy to get through the day. The Math Resource Center is located right next to the atrium, with a teacher at the desk for every period of the day.
Whether it’s before or after school, Mr. J has a smile on his face and is ready to help with anything someone may need. While the spot doesn’t exactly make for a great study spot, Mr. J can offer words of advice, encouragement, or a prayer, which can turn anyone’s day around.
If an outdoor spot is more enticing, the picnic benches near the baseball field may be the ideal study spot. The trees above make for a nice shade, without being too chilly. The quiet outdoors can make for a great location for someone who might like a little more privacy during their homework time.
Room 104 makes for a great area to ask for help with almost anything. With teachers Ms. Miller and Ms. Johnson teaching in the Learning Lab during the day, they have learned how to work with any student. The room in general is a great place to work if a student needs to really focus, but its proximity to the Math Resource Center around the corner, and the Writing Center just inside the library, Room 104 makes for a great study area.
The last study spot is a little less known, with it being tucked away near the theater. The chairs in the upper corner of the atrium are rarely occupied and are just a few yards away from the math resource center. This spot is nice because it is close to resources but still secluded to offer more privacy.
