The question is as old as Taher itself… Are warm cookies or cold cookies better? The cookies served in the lunchroom are notorious for being the highlight of a Red Knight’s day, but the argument of warm versus cold cookies has torn the lunchroom apart in recent months.
Whether someone has A, B, or C lunch, everyone is in agreement about the temptation and overwhelming addiction of the Taher cookies. The cookies fly off the trays, but which cookie to select is the hardest decision of the day. Warm or cold? Crispy or soggy? Everyone has their own opinions on the criteria for the best treat.
Cold cookies used to be the only available option, but in 2024, a switch was made that divided the lunch room: warm cookies became the default cookie. While the first few weeks were a cookie-eating craze, once the novelty wore off, people became more upset about the loss of the beloved cool cookies. Arranged protests were made in attempts to bring back the cooled sweets, but the warm cookie stans stood their ground.
Sophomore Evie Fredrick expressed how the exclusivity of getting the warm cookies hot off the trays a few times a month made her feel like they were a treat to have. “It makes them special and exclusive,” Fredrick said.
While the strong argument for the warm cookies is prominent, cold cookie fans prefer to stay anonymous due to the hostility often associated with warm cookie fans. This alleged hostility led to many of the cold cookie sources avoiding interviews. Many of the fans often said that they enjoyed them more because they were easier to grab on the go as a sweet treat.
The debate has divided the argument of cold versus warm cookies, splitting lunch tables and ending friendships. A fight broke out due to a tight-knit 10th-grade friend group over the treats. Chocolate was thrown, paper bags were left with blood stains. A split was made that day all due to a heavy debate of whether warm cookies are better. Rumors have spread that some of the friends haven’t spoken since the brutal arrangement. The fight reportedly broke out due to sophomore Rosie Fitzpatrick saying, “The chocolate is, like, melted, and it just tastes so much better…[C]old is just not as good,” Fitzpatrick said.
Once the cookie craze has grasped the heart, it often doesn’t let go. The calling to the sweet baked goods captures hearts across every grade. It’s unclear what kind of magic is put into them, but it’s clear that they must put something otherworldly into them. When asked how many times a week she gets cookies, “Like six or seven times a week,” Fitzpatrick said, with full truthfulness lingering in her words.
Obviously, this was a worthy cause to fight over, considering the passion that the cold cookie advocates feel so strongly about their chosen preferences, but the Knight Errant doesn’t condone any cookie-related fighting or any fighting for that matter.
