Season three of the hit TV show, The Summer I Turned Pretty, has officially wrapped up. The season is based on the love triangle between three characters: Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. Jeremiah and Belly get engaged, but the wedding gets called off due to Conrad confessing his love for Belly. This show is known for its controversy about whether you are team Conrad Fischer or team Jeremiah Fischer. As the show becomes increasingly popular, fans have become extremely passionate about which team they support.
Conrad has been a fan favorite on the show. He has loved Belly since he was in elementary school. Students say he will do anything for Belly: whether it’s small acts of service, gifts, or ways to get Belly’s attention. Their relationship has been so strong that it has always been at the back of Belly’s mind throughout all her relationships. They have been through so many ups and downs together, but their connection always lasts through all the hardships. “I support team Conrad because he’s liked her forever, and he’s always been doing small acts of service for her, and Jeremiah has cheated on her and then proposed to her in front of the hospital where her brother just almost died… and is a super senior,” junior Violet Grendahl said.
Other students agree that Conrad was always there for Belly when Jeremiah wasn’t during their relationship. When Jeremiah was off at work, Conrad kept her company when she was struggling mentally. Conrad also stands up for Belly when he finds out that Jeremiah has cheated on her in Cabo. He confessed his love for Belly and told her to choose him. Those on team Conrad say Conrad has the right intentions and just wants to be with Belly because he loves her. “I was team Jeremiah until season three, and then he just started being really immature, and he’s kind of annoying. Conrad was always there for her when Jeremiah was always at work,” sophomore Reagen Schlaeger said.
Team Jeremiah, also known as the minority team, is favored by few. Based on a student poll of 81 BSM students, 2.5% of students are team Jeremiah—meaning only 2 of the 81 students support that team. Junior Evie Janis is a student who strongly supports this team. “Ever since the beginning, I’ve been team Jeremiah. Conrad gives really emo and depressed vibes. He doesn’t want to be there, and he was never there for Belly at all until he realized that she didn’t want him four years later… And Jeremiah’s been there the whole time; he cheated on her, which made you rethink it a little more. But I think in general, Jeremiah has just always been the most loyal to her,” Janis said.
Students who support team Jeremiah say there’s no question that Jeremiah and Belly have shared a strong relationship. He has always had a bubbly personality around her, even while coping with the death of his mom. When Conrad was sad, Jeremiah always kept a positive outlook on the situation and always tried to stay strong even through the hard times. “I just think that he has a way more bubbly personality that’s more enjoyable than Conrad. Conrad would just make her depressed,” Janis said.
Regardless of whether you are on team Conrad or team Jeremiah, there is no doubt that The Summer I Turned Pretty is a fun-filled drama for everyone to enjoy. “Even my dad loved it. I would recommend the show. I think it’s highly entertaining; however, it is absolute rage bait, and every episode is insane and makes me very mad,” Grandahl said.
