As announced at the end of March, Dan Wrobleski will be filling the role of senior high principal in the coming school year. As a new addition to our BSM community, Wrobleski hopes to foster an energetic and faith-filled community.
Following the departure of Stephanie Nitchals at the end of the last academic year, BSM has gone through a lengthy hiring process to find her replacement. It was important to find a principal who not only checked the boxes but also went above and beyond to make an impact on the community and became a part of the community instantly, something that Wrobleski also deeply values. “I never want a job just to have a job. I want a job that’s a fit. I think through that [hiring] process, both parties felt there was a fit,” Wrobleski said.
Wrobleski made it known throughout the hiring process that he wanted to be the kind of principal who isn’t just sitting behind his desk all day. It’s important for students to see their principal who participates in all that the school has to offer. “You probably won’t see me in my office very much. I’m a present principal. I’m going to be out and about; I’m going to be in classrooms; I’m going to be in the lunchrooms. I might participate in gym class, and I would love to go run with the cross country [or] track team. I want to be at the events…and I [want to be invested in the community,” Wrobleski said.
As a Catholic school, it is important to find someone who not only knows how to foster a faith-filled environment but also someone who can build relationships based on a common belief. “I’m now in a Catholic school. I’ve never been in one before. I haven’t been able to share my faith, my experiences, and my values and beliefs with students before, if given the opportunity, and that’s where you build those relationships,” Wrobleski said.
With a new principal, there will inevitably be some changes. Even if it doesn’t include an explicit change in policy immediately, the community is sure to feel some kind of shift when under new leadership. “The building’s gonna have a little bit of different energy. That’s just who I am. And I think with that energy and with those relationships, it’s gonna create a positive culture and climate, or intensify what we already have…You’re going to get excitement and energy, and we’re going to have fun,” Wrobleski said.
