Last Saturday, the Benilde St. Margaret’s juniors and seniors traded in their BSM merch for suits and ball gowns as they made their way to BSM’s 2025 prom. And, while there are many exciting components of prom night, from pictures to dates to dancing the night away on the dance floor, one component of prom definitely held focus throughout the night: the prom dresses.
Prom dress trends have evolved over the years from the sparkly, big gowns of the 80s to the sweet Easter style dresses of the past couple of years. With such a wide range of dress trends throughout the years, I was curious to see what the 2025 prom dress trends would be and if they would live up to the beautiful gowns of years past. And, I can say with confidence that I was not let down by this year’s prom dress trends.
The Red Knights brought a variety of prom dress colors to the dance floor, but there was definitely a color trend among the dresses, namely pinks and blues. Pinks, especially, of a variety of different shades, were definitely in this year. I am not mad about it. It is very hard to go wrong with a cute pink, and it’s easy to love a little Malibu Barbie moment. Blue was also an in this year, and rightfully so. From navy blues to baby blues, many Red Knights dazzled in their Cinderella-esque aesthetic.
While the pink and blue dresses definitely hit the mark, there was one color dress trend that was a definite standout: a beautiful pastel yellow. Yellow was a trend this year, and one that I hadn’t noticed in years past. With a mix of styles, the gorgeous, baby yellow dresses gave everything they needed to, especially when paired with a silk material and an open back. I loved seeing Red Knights have an Andie Anderson from How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days moment.
Along with the perfect mix of colors this prom season, the style of dresses was also memorable this year. Red Knights showcased simplistic yet chic gowns this year; a definite contrast to the loud and sparkly dresses from the 80s and even the floral Easter-style dress trend from the past. Paired with trends of simple, light curls in hair, the elegant simplicity of these dresses brought a classy and elegant feel to the night and also allowed students to dress up their gowns with beautiful jewelry and accessories. However, while many dresses stayed on the simpler side, there was a variety of styles, necklines, and bodices that brought a unique individuality to each dress, allowing its owner’s personality to shine through. From strapless to halter and from flowy to fitted, each dress shone individually.
From simple elegance to Barbie moments to expressions of individuality, the prom dresses of 2025 did not fail to impress. Each Red Knight shone in their own way in the ballroom and definitely made the prom dress trends of 2025 ones to remember.
