Benilde-St. Margaret’s is anticipating a new chapter this school year as it welcomes a new leadership team that includes a few familiar faces. This transition has been meticulously planned, with Matt Weingartz as the senior high interim principal and Matthew McMerty-Brummer (MB) as the interim vice principal. Both have spent multiple years at BSM and are very involved in education and the well-being of students. Weingartz, previously the vice principal, is stepping into the role of senior high principal following Stephanie Nitchals’s departure from BSM. Meanwhile, MB, who has made his mark as an honors Spanish teacher here at BSM, is now taking on the role of vice principal. This change is not only a shift in titles but a reflection of BSM’s commitment to embracing new opportunities and making the most of certain situations.
Weingartz, a well-respected figure at BSM for six years, has been long known for his commitment to academic excellence and student engagement. Starting his career in education as a teacher, Weingartz worked his way up from junior high teacher to senior high interim principal. With his many years at BSM, Weingartz brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to fostering a positive environment for both students and staff members. Weingartz has expressed his dedication to student’s well-being and academic excellence. “I’m just trying to create a positive school culture, to be able to create this environment, and to be able to take BSM where we need to go into the future,” Weingartz said.
Taking over Weingartz’s previous role as vice principal this year, MB is a former honors Spanish teacher with a reputation for inspiring and pushing students to do their absolute best when it comes to academics. With over 13 years of experience as a Spanish teacher, MB is now taking his teaching to the next level in an administrative position. His transition from teacher to interim vice principal has garnered many positive reactions from students, and MB expresses his enthusiasm and dedication to his new role. “I’m hoping to be able to provide stability and continuity as the school year goes on,” MB said.
Together, Weingartz and MB are ready to lead us through the 2024-2025 school year. As they embark on their journeys, both administrators are determined to build on BSM’s legacy while shaping a forward-thinking vision for the school’s future. As BSM turns the page to a new chapter in its administrative roles, students and staff are optimistic about the changes to come and excited to see how Weingartz and MB navigate their new roles. “One of our goals is to try and recognize all the amazing things that so many different people in our Red Knight community do, and so whether that’s students, whether that’s faculty and staff, but trying to build that positive culture by recognizing all the successes that we have here,” MB said.
