The Kim Kardashian-owned clothing brand, Skims, is making its name as a popular clothing brand. Most of its hype has grown from TikTok reviews and the fact that the company was started by Kim K herself. But is Skims clothing worth the hype?
One fact about Skims is that the ‘best sellers’ are almost always out of stock. For example, their cotton jersey tee in simple colors like gray has been out of stock for months. This makes it hard to build a classic colored Skims collection because the only other colors Skims offer are usually bright and seasonal. For instance, currently, they have a bright pink and bright blue option but have still yet to restock their ‘normal’ colors.
On top of this, most of these pieces are more expensive than Aritzia bodysuits or other clothing. For example, the Skims body suit is $78 while the Aritzia bodysuit is $58. They are both high-quality brands, but they have different fabrics. I believe the reason the Skims bodysuit costs more is because you are paying for the “Kardashian” name.
Additionally, there are many Skims dupes on Amazon. There are multiple videos on TikTok comparing the brands from Skims and Amazon and they are made of the same materials and look identical in color. If anything, the videos I have seen of the Amazon outfits look better fitting than the Skims option. On Amazon, the pricing of a cotton jersey long-sleeve dupe is $12, which is less than 3/4ths the cost of the normal Skims at $56. This holds true for a majority of the Amazon dupes, even though the material and color appear to be the same.
I have invested in the Skims Cotton Jersey tee in 2 colors, a Fits Everyone black bodysuit, and the Cotton Jersey straight-leg pants. I would definitely splurge on the Cotton Jersey straight-leg pants again because they fit very well and are very good quality, but I would not purchase the Cotton Jersey T-shirts again. I like the T-shirts but I would rather save the money and buy more colors on Amazon. In contrast, I would also splurge on the bodysuit because even though Amazon may have a dupe, the Skims bodysuit looks so flattering and is an essential that will last a very long time. Overall, I would say the Skims brand is worth the hype for similar things, but you can get cheaper options for the same products elsewhere.
