Last year, the BSM administration made a new policy where students must be in a certain dress code for mass. This was made with the intention for students to dress their best. Despite this dress code being new, the administration has already made changes to allow more leniency in wardrobe expectations.

BSM administration has decided to allow students to wear plain colored T-shirts to mass rather than a collared shirt. Students have been enjoying this change for many different reasons. They think the change to T-shirts has been more inclusive because most people have access to them. “I like them. I think they’re more flexible and people have more options. And I think it’s not so strict. I think it’s more inclusive,” sophomore Eleanor Porisch said.

Overall, the administration wanted to make the mass dress code easier for students this year. This has included a noticeable decline in referrals regarding proper mass attire. They said that they noticed lots of kids who just forgot to dress up for mass. If they own up to forgetting, they can just pick up a polo shirt without receiving any consequences. The administration said there was confusion about T-shirts. Since most students have designer T-shirts, the administration thought it would be a great idea for students to wear them to mass. “We wanted to adapt and make sure that we allowed them to wear those,” Assistant Principal Mr. Kautzman said.

Even the guys have been experiencing positive changes in the dress code. They think it’s been beneficial to them since they don’t need to wear a collared shirt anymore. “I like it better because I can just wear a T-shirt instead of wearing a collared shirt,” sophomore Patrick Mohabir said.

Students have been noticing more participation in dressing up for mass this year due to the new dress code changes. “Yes, I believe that it has let people find a better and more comfortable outfit to wear during mass, able to express themselves and look beautiful while worshiping God,” sophomore Elle Montague said.
