This year’s student council decided on the “Glow in the Knight” theme for homecoming this year. There will be a black light dance, mini donuts, glow-in-the-dark mini golf, and other fun surprises. The idea is for students to light up the night with their best glow-in-the-dark attire. I personally think the theme itself is a creative idea that gets students involved, but finding outfits to coordinate with this theme can be difficult.

The “Glow in the Knight” theme gives students the opportunity to let their creativity shine with their outfits. Students can wear LED accessories, neon colors, anything white, and basically anything that glows. I know that lots of students have been enjoying this idea, which will result in most students participating in the theme. I thought it was a great idea that the student council is snapping pictures of the most radiant outfits, and if they take your picture you’ll be entered in the drawing. This will encourage students to get more creative with their glowing outfits. When we had the neon dress-up day at school, lots of students showed up wearing their best radiant outfits. I noticed that students were more innovative with their outfits this year.

However, the one issue about this theme is it can be hard for students to find accessories and outfits to fit the theme. Not many people own glow-in-the-dark outfits. In addition, shopping for accessories isn’t possible for some students. A lot of girls got their dresses before the theme was announced, which made it difficult for them to participate in the theme. I also think that most girls don’t want to wear a neon-colored dress since it can be very vibrant in the photos. The theme is a great idea, it just can be hard to find an outfit to fit with it.

Overall, I think the theme gives many opportunities for different activities. The glow-in-the-dark aspects add a lively atmosphere, and students will thrive with all the glowing lights. The theme will make the dance floor a better atmosphere for students. The decorations have been adding a unique flare to the BSM hallways. Overall, I thought the decorations were very unique this year. At coronation, the black lights and all the glow light accessories made the gym a better atmosphere to watch all of the homecoming court dance down the aisle. I can’t wait to see everyone’s glowing outfits at the homecoming dance!
