D’Angelo Russell celebrates after making a clutch 3-Pointer

The start of the 2021 NBA season has tipped off, and the Minnesota Timberwolves are off to a hot start, going 3-1 through the first four games. The team is led by the “Big Three”: Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and their previous number one overall pick, Anothony Edwards.

D’Angelo Russell is the team’s starting point guard who handles the ball most of the time and runs the plays. He is a very good shooter and makes a lot of threes. Anthony Edwards is a big guard who can handle the ball very well and is an athletic-freak. He can dunk the ball, along with being an awesome shooter and shot creator. Karl-Anthony Towns is the team’s big man who gets a lot of rebounds and can also shoot.

I am a big fan of the Timberwolves and am very excited to see what this team can do this year. We saw a sign of a great team, beating the reigning champs Milwaukee Bucks, but they lost to a weak pelicans team missing star Zion Williamson. The next game, we went to Milwaukee to face the reigning champs in the Milwaukee Bucks led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, known as the “Greek Freak”. Led by the big three, the Twolves took down the Bucks. Russell led the team with 29 points, followed by Towns and Edwards with 25 points each. Giannis had a whopping 40 points, but the wolves came out with a 5 point win, secured by a clutch bucket from Edwards.

As the team began the year under the new ownership of former Yankee star Alex Rodriguez, rumors began flying about the team’s potential relocation to a new market. I personally believe the Wolves can have a very successful season due to the talent and veteran presence on the team. The team signed veteran point guard Patrick Beverly this offseason, which brings key attributes to the team including intensity and defense. Since the new stars are young, it is crucial they get mentored by a veteran. I believe Patrick Beverly brings that to this young, talented team. Beverly is also known as a lockdown defender, and in the NBA a lot of teams have very strong guard play which can dominate a game. To have someone who can guard them and minimize their talent would give the Wolves a huge boost in those games.

With a stacked western conference, the Timberwolves will need to win a number of games against very good teams, including the undefeated Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, star-led LA Clippers, and many more. I think Coach Chris Finch can lead this talented team to many wins this year, including the playoffs. Anthony Edwards is in his second season with more experience playing alongside Towns and Russell building that chemistry which is huge and will win games down the stretch.
