Students now participate in four classes each day with no work assigned on Wednesdays.

While BSM’s history with online school made them well prepared to take on the challenge of an extended online schooling environment, slight adjustments have been made in order for the students to receive the best possible education.

At first, the schedule for extended online school was the same as the schedule that the senior high used during regular school. However, things changed when the BSM faculty and staff asked for student feedback in a survey. “We found a good amount of alignment between what students, teachers, and parents were telling us,” Principal Dr. Susan Skinner said.

The switch has been made. The EOS schedule now consists of block days throughout the week, with Wednesday being a catch-up day. “The change to all block days was to provide a better pace for students,” Skinner said.

The feedback regarding the change to EOS has been very positive. “The intention is that EOS 2.0 will improve the experience for everyone. We will continue to ask students, teachers, and parents how things are going so that we can ensure the very best experience,” Skinner said.

Beyond the block day switch, the big difference is that students will spend more time “live” with their teachers and classmates more often. “Being connected virtually is different than being together on campus, but we still value and treasure the relationships that define who we are as the BSM community,” Skinner said.

As the BSM community is so tightly knit, there is no doubt that it’s difficult to be away from each other. “Our preference is always to be together, to be on campus in classrooms and hallways, and even in the cafeteria. Now that EOS is being extended to the end of the year, it’s even more important that we find creative ways to stay connected—academically, spiritually, and socially,” Skinner said.

Skinner also notes that while BSM continues to ask students, teachers, and parents how things are going so that they can ensure the very best experience, EOS 2.0 is intended to remain as the schedule for the remainder of the school year.
