Section 5A Champs! Girls Soccer advances to State for fourth time in five years with shutout of Blake

The BSM girls soccer team has advanced to the 2015 State A Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years with a 3-0 win over the Blake Bears in the Section 5A Final on Friday, October 23.

It took only 55 seconds for the girls to get on the board, as sophomore Maddie Stoks scored to give the Red Knights a 1-0 lead.  This lead would only increase less than 16 minutes later, as Stoks put her second ball of the game in the net, this time assisted by senior captain Aleksa Tataryn.

The score being 2-0 at the half, Tataryn added a goal of her own in the 18th minute of the second half to give BSM a 3-0 cushion that they would never relinquish.  Sophomore goalkeeper Claire Grazzini was solid on the night, keeping a shutout and having 5 saves.

With the win, the girls are back in the State Tournament for the first time since beating Blake in back-to-back years to win the State title in 2012 and 2013.  State play for the Red Knights begins on Thursday, October 29 at 5:30pm, as BSM will make the trek up to St. Cloud State University for their State A Quarterfinal game against Sartell-St. Stephen.
