Due to the remaining snow outside, the track team has been practicing inside the school.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s is well known for its hockey teams and football teams, however, the BSM track and field teams should definitely be on people’s watchlist. “There’s a lot of talented people,” senior captain Liz Nicholson said.

Last year, the girls track team took second in conference finals, but will face a lot of competition in track and field this year from the conference. “We are expecting a run for the conference championship this year. I’d say Totino Grace is one of our best conference rivalries,” Nicholson said.

Last year’s track team set a high bar for the 2013-2014 girls track and field team when they set the school record in the 4×100 relay event. “I’m really excited for the season, we had a lot of success last year and hope to continue that this year,” senior captain Katie Oppenheimer said.

As for the boys varsity track and field team, the captains are looking forward to a successful season. “The team is looking pretty good so far,” senior captain Jay Biwer said. So far, the team is showing a lot of heart and dedication as the team took eighth place at the NSC Conference meet, and are looking to improve this year. “Most people on the team are coming from a winter sport, so everyone is in pretty good shape,” Biwer said.

Some particular standouts to the senior captain included fellow senior captain Andrew Egger, and junior captain Matt Cornell. “They are both very strong in their events, our relays will also be very good,” said Biwer.
