Girls’ hockey blanks Edina

The Red Knights’ defense stifled the Edina Hornets as they won the first game of the Cake Eater Tournament 3-0 on Friday, November 23. Both teams came out of the gate a little slow as no goals were put up on the board in the first period. Midway through the second period, junior forward Kaylee Druk put in her second goal of the season off assists from Brittany Wheeler and Mackenzie Steffen. When the third period began, the Red Knights played as if they had the game under control, despite the one goal lead. They proved they did as senior defenseman Liv Halvorson fired a slapshot past Edina goalie Boomer Sonnek. Late in the third the Hornets pulled Sonnek and junior forward Ali Praus put in the empty-netter. The Red Knights had a lot of help from junior goalie Abbey Miller, who completed her first shutout of the year with 15 saves.
