Burns ends incredible season

After being named as one of their “Athletes of the Week” by both the Star Tribune and Kare 11, girls varsity hockey assistant captain Jordyn Burns continues to shine and reach her goals on the ice. One of her biggest accomplishments was tying the state record of 8 goals in one game, with her 10 points being the second highest single game total in state history.

Now a junior, Burns has been playing hockey for twelve years, but has played different roles on the teams she has been on. “I play both defense and forward, basically wherever the team I’m playing on at the time needs me,” said Burns. For BSM, she usually plays forward, but she plays defense for her summer teams.

Burns enjoys many aspects of the sport. “My favorite part about hockey is probably setting other people up for goals or at least a good shot,” said Burns.

Thanks in part to Burns’ efforts, the varsity hockey team has had an overall successful season, with a final record of 19-5-3 “I think the team is doing extremely well,” said Burns. “At the beginning of the season I thought this year would be a little rough, but everyone seemed to want to put the effort in.”

Personally, Burns had an outstanding season, scoring an incredible 31 goals. “This year I feel like I’ve had an accomplished season, all the goals I had set for this year have been reached, or close to it,” said Burns.

With the season ending, the team is looking forward to next year’s goals. “My hopes for next season are that we have a good strong team and that we get help from the underclassmen,” said Burns.

Aside from playing hockey, Burns is also an avid soccer player and has played on the BSM varsity soccer team since her freshman year. “When I’m not playing hockey I like to sleep, hang with friends and eat,” said Burns.

The girls’ hockey team won their first section game, but ended their season with a tough loss against Hopkins on Wednesday, February 17. Burns is a talented player with a bright future ahead of her. “I plan on playing hockey in college, so this year as a junior was a big year for me to put myself out there and get noticed,” said Burns.
