Sophomore Jack VanOverbeke is said to be the best Fortnite player at BSM.

In the past months, BSM sophomore Jack VanOverbeke has made a name for himself as the best Fortnite player the school has to offer. Fortnite has been the most popular video game in the world, and at BSM for quite some time now, almost everyone who plays video games or calls themselves a gamer has given it a try.

Very few have put as much time and effort into the game as VanOverbeke, who has logged over 300 hours on the game and claims to play it whenever he is not at school or at lacrosse practice. “I like to play at least an hour every day in order to stay sharp and so my skills don’t fade,” VanOverbeke said.

The moment that VanOverbeke claimed the top spot among the rankings of BSM Fortnite players was when he eliminated Ninja. Ninja is an incredibly talented gamer who streams his Fortnite sessions on YouTube, where he has over 10 million subscribers. VanOverbeke admits that he didn’t even know it was Ninja when he killed him and didn’t find out until one of his friends who was watching his stream texted him.

The kill happened when Jack was going through one of the buildings in Tilted Towers looking for loot and saw someone around the corner; after jumping and shooting at him twice with a blue pump shotgun he eliminated him. “The best part about the whole killing Ninja story is the fact that after I eliminated him, I danced on him,” VanOverbeke said.

VanOverbeke is not very keen on sharing his secrets but recommends beginners to drop tilted as many times as possible to get used to the flow of the game. “I like to keep my strategies to myself as much as I possibly can because I don’t want those trying to knock me off my throne to use it against me,” VanOverbeke said.

Those who play with VanOverbeke often, such as senior Jerome Newhouse, describe watching him play as a true art. “[VanOverbeke is] very smooth on the sticks and an excellent builder,” Newhouse said. Whether squading up or playing with VanOverbeke in a duo, a Victory Royale is almost guaranteed.
