Students cast in fall musical “The Addams Family”
September 16, 2016
This past week, the BSM Drama Department held auditions and began rehearsals for the fall musical, “The Addams Family.” Looking to continue its notable theatrical success, the department has high hopes for this musical, as it will participate in the Spotlight Showcase Program.
This iconic performance has been adapted in many platforms during the 20th and 21st centuries. Beginning as a TV show in the 1960s, the Addams Family quickly grew popular and the show eventually made its way onto the big screen in 1991, 1993, and 1998. Most recently, in 2010, the show was transformed into a Broadway musical for the first time.
The lead roles in the musical are members of the three living generations of the odd macabre family of Addams relatives. The youngest members of the family are brother and sister Pugsley and Wednesday who live under one roof with their parents, Gomez and Morticia, their Uncle Fester, their Grandma, and manservant Lurch. The ancestors of the Addams family are summoned from their graves early on in the musical and make up the ensemble. The plot explores what happens when Wednesday, invites her fiancé Lucas, and his normal, everyday family from Ohio over for dinner seeking approval of the marriage from both families.
The directors made cuts after one day of auditions, but are extremely optimistic about the caliber of the musical’s cast. “The level of talent at auditions was extremely high,” music director Nancy Stockhaus said.
In addition to the enthusiasm of the directors, the cast is excited for the show to debut. “This show is going to be a ton of fun. It is filled with dark, dry humor and has fun and creative music that will be as much fun to watch as it is to perform,” senior Carson Knoer said.
The show will run from Thursday, October 27 to Sunday, October 30 at the Hamburge Theater. Tickets can be bought online, or right before the show.
