Boys swimming State preview

The Benilde-St. Margaret’s boys’ swim team will be represented by four swimmers, at this year’s state meet.

Johnson, the only senior who qualified to race at state, will be competing in the 200 meter freestyle and 100 meter backstroke; his qualifying time for the 100 meter backstroke at the section meet broke his previous personal record, which was also the school record for the event.

Metz, a BSM sophomore, also qualified to race in the state meet. He will compete in the 200 meter freestyle as well as the 100 meter freestyle. His 100 meter time at the section meet was fast enough to break the school record. “I’ve been focusing on nutrition to stay healthy for the state meet. Just getting into the mindset of it being state has also been a very important part of my preparation,” said Metz.

BSM will also be represented at the state meet by Carson Knoer and Tommy McGinn.

With State approaching quickly, racers are preparing for the toughest competition of the year. “I’ve been trying to work on my technique and form good habits so that I can have the technique needed to swim as fast as possible,” said McGinn.

“I feel pretty good, but I’m coming off being sick last week and didn’t swim as well as I wanted to in sections. I’m excited to get another chance to race this year.”
