Science teacher Mr. John Porisch coaches the trapshooting team at BSM. This upcoming spring season, Porisch will get to coach both of his kids on the team.

Since the Porisch kids began trap shooting, a friendly competition has sparked among the family, and Porisch admits he isn’t the best shot. “[Daniel] is better than me,” Porisch said.

Although Eleanor is just starting, both she and her brother, Daniel, are looking forward to shooting together and have their father coach them. “It’s exciting. How many sports can you say you’ve coached them both at the same time? It’s pretty rare,” Porisch said.

Porisch began his ventures in the shooting field when he was a kid. He frequently hunted and has enjoyed it ever since. Because of Porisch’s love for shooting, he began coaching the trap team at BSM in 2014. Since then, students around BSM sign up every spring and share their enthusiasm for the sport with Porisch. “I really like the rhythm, how everyone has so much fun. There’s no whistles or yelling. It’s a really neat environment to have boys and girls at the same time… like, for example, brothers and sisters,” Porisch said.

In years past, the trap team has been trying to grow their program. Going into the upcoming season the team hopes to not necessarily focus on winning but to have fun. Team members are excited for the new year to start and to further their shooting experience. “I am very excited…. [We] should compete well this year because we have some very good… experienced shooters,” Porisch said.
