Each year, the freshman class comes together to collect cans for local food shelters. This canned food drive is capped off each year with a “Freshtival” that celebrates the good work of the freshmen and is lead by Link Crew leaders.

This year was no different. On a Friday night, the students of the Freshman class piled into cars, and went door to door in neighborhoods across the metro to collect cans. Later that night, the groups of students returned to BSM with trunks filled with cans of food for those in need.

After the cans were unloaded from each vehicle, students began to fill the Haben Center, which had already been prepared for the Freshtival. The Freshtival included a bouncy house, a velcro wall, pickup basketball games, and many other fun activities for the freshmen.

Link Crew adviser Ms. Rebecca Meagher was happy with how the food drive and Freshtival turned out, hoping that it gave the freshman class a chance to bond. “It’s just about the freshman having fun on a Friday night. Good, clean fun,” Meagher said.

The goals of the Freshtival were accomplished, as many in the freshman class seemed to really enjoy an opportunity to spend time together as a class. “I thought [the Freshtival] was really fun, it was a cool thing to do after volunteering. Yeah, it was just fun overall,” freshman Harry Madden said.
