The first Netflix original series, “House of Cards” set a higher standard for TV drama. The show, centered on Washington D.C. politics, has excellent writing, acting and production quality that is unmatched by any other drama series currently running. 

Kevin Spacey stars as the House Majority Whip Frank Underwood who will do anything to get his way. The show begins with the celebration of the fictional President-elect’s victory in the 2012 election. While Underwood is celebrating, he finds out that the President will no longer offerring him the coveted position of Secretary of State that he had promised. He then plans his elaborate revenge plan with his wife Claire, played by Robin Wright.

The impressive acting elevates the drama of “House of Cards.” The show has numerous fourth wall breaks that closely connect the viewer with Frank Underwood. In every episode of the show, the viewer feels deeply involved and connected with the story. But if you start the series, be sure to finish it, because as Frank Underwood says directly to the viewer: “I have zero tolerance for betrayal, which they will soon indelibly learn.”
