Internships provide students with valuable hands-on experience and opportunities to explore potential career interests. At Benilde St. Margaret’s, students can participate in various EPIC (Explore Partner Inspire Connect) internships that align with their interests and help them develop essential skills. EPIC is a BSM program that sets students up with helpful experiences to teach them about future careers and prepare them for later in their upcoming futures. These in-school internships take place once a week during their study hall periods and require an application process for selection into these programs. The internships are a great hands-on experience and a way for students to learn.
Sophomore Madeline Yacoub participates in one of these internships; she is a part of the BSM Marketing and Communications program. Yacoub takes photos and writes captions for the official BSM Instagram account about sports, student life, and so much more. The internship has allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of marketing and communication strategies. She hopes to take what she learned and put it to use in college and jobs that she may pursue in the future. “I thought it would be a good opportunity to learn new things and maybe find something that I want to do later in life,” Yacoub said.
Sophomore Mary Waters is also participating in an internship. She works with children from one to four years old in the Little Knights Child Development internship. The in-school daycare offers a chance for interning students to spend time with kids and learn about child development. Waters not only enjoys spending time with the children, but she also gains essential life skills. Mary believes that such experiences are valuable for all students as they can help them learn about their potential career interests. “What I can get out of this internship is adaptation skills and patience and learning to work well with younger children and how to teach them,” Waters said.
These are just two examples of the eleven different internships offered to students. Other options include Admissions internship, College Career and Counseling, Equity Inclusions, and Belonging, and many more that will give students insights into different fields of work, and prepare them for the future. EPIC allows students to dive deeper into fields they might want to pursue and give them life skills they didn’t know they needed. “[The internships] could teach them valuable lessons about others and themselves,” Waters said.
