Everyone has that one thing, whether it’s a show, song, snack, etc., that they may be a bit embarrassed to admit. Guilty pleasures come from a wide variety of things. Usually, guilty pleasures bring people comfort and relaxation, even if others might not understand. Many students at BSM have something that they consider a guilty pleasure.
The most common types of guilty pleasures are TV series. Some students’ favorites are The Bachelor, Gilmore Girls, and Love Island.
For sophomore Annie Mullin, her guilty pleasure is the TV series, The Bachelor. Many people typically try to hide their guilty pleasures, but some of Mullin’s friends know about hers, because of how much she likes the show. The Bachelor is a popular American dating show that has 29 seasons, and is known to feature a lot of drama and conflict. “It’s so entertaining and I can watch all the episodes in one sitting,” Mullin said.
Another student whose guilty pleasure is a TV series is junior Bevelyne Rioba. She enjoys watching a series called Gilmore Girls. Rioba thinks that it is an addicting show and something that she can not stop binge-watching. Even though it is not one of her favorite shows, it is a good show for her to put on to feel calm and relaxed. “It’s not bad, but it’s not great, just something that you can’t stop watching,” Rioba said.
Junior Anna Kelm’s guilty pleasure is actually a food combination. Kelm enjoys grapes and ranch, which some people may call a weird food combination. While she was eating lunch one day, Kelm’s grapes accidentally rolled into her ranch. From there on, her love for the combination began. Another guilty pleasure that Kelm has is pickles and honey. Similar to Mullin, some people know about Kelm’s guilty pleasures. “Some people on my swim team know about it, they joke about it to me because they think it’s a really weird thing,” Kelm said.
Overall, it is very common for people to have guilty pleasures. They are just the things that people enjoy, despite others maybe seeing them as embarrassing. Many people have guilty pleasures because they may be comforting, nostalgic, entertaining, and more. A lot of people have things that they may secretly, or not so secretly, enjoy. In conclusion, guilty pleasures are perfectly fine to have, and people should have them, even without shame.
