With a new year, comes new responsibilities. The BSM class of 2025 has earned their spot on top, and will strive to become the new leaders of the school this year.
Between activities, athletics, school spirit, and general participation within our community, the senior class are the ones students and staff often look to. The class of 2025 is aiming to be the best leaders they can be for their final year at Benilde-St. Margarets. This school year, school spirit has been at a high as the Spirit Squad and Student Council have been on their ‘A-game’ helping to boost the camaraderie of the school as a collective. The senior class tries to live that out each day, showing our BSM pride whenever we can, whether that’s at sporting events, or celebrating homecoming week by participating in dress up days. “If the seniors dress up during dress up weeks, then the freshmen will too, if they’re not talking during mass mass, then same with the freshmen, and [younger students] just follow along however the seniors act,” senior Scarlett Lira said.
Although being ‘leaders of the school’ may feel like a burden to some, the class of 2025 recognizes this as a privilege that many are excited and ready to take on. “There are a lot of big personalities in our grade that kind of dictate the tone of our grade… [making] it kind of easy for us to fill those leadership roles,” senior Natalie Lamers said.
As seniors, the grade is both celebrating their own senior year, while also preparing the future generations to fill their shoes after graduation. By leading by example and using sports and activities as an outlet of inspiration, the class of 2025 unites together as a grade while also connecting with underclassmen. “Our grade has really good unity compared to the last class…We all kind of have a good bond, and there’s a lot of athletes in our grade who are really inspiring to the younger grades,” Lamers said.
Leaving a legacy is at the forefront of many seniors’ minds this year. As we celebrate and honor our last few months together, the class of 2025 is putting in a conscious effort to act as the role models that they looked up to when they were younger. “As freshmen, I got to look up to all the seniors on dance team and student council who acted as role models for me. So now it feels like it’s our turn,” Lira said.
Ultimately, the senior class feel passionate about creating a sense of unity and feeling together as one, acknowledging the connections they have made as a class over the past 4 years. This year, they strive to make their mark, and soak in all their ‘lasts’ of high school. “I think we’ve always been pretty spirited, but even more so as seniors this year [because] it’s our last year, [and] everyone just happy to be together,” Lira said.
