Productivity always increases when the clouds get darker, a drizzle starts to fall, and you can hear a slight rumble. Rain creates the optimal studying environment: you can cozy up and page through a book, or take a week’s worth of notes in a few hours. Whenever there’s rain, students should be cramming to complete coursework and homework.
When you are at school and hear your sports for the evening are canceled because of the weather, it should be seen as an opportunity to complete or get ahead of any homework. This provides students, and especially student-athletes, with more time to complete homework. There’s no reason or motivation to go outside if it’s raining unless you like getting wet and ruining your favorite pair of shoes. Additionally, since it’s raining there’s usually no sun out, which means there’s no incentive to soak in the UV rays of the sun.
Furthermore, a rainy day allows you to cozy up in a sweatsuit or with a blanket guilt-free. As long as you are in an upright position, you should not get sleepy. If you study on the couch or at a table next to a window, you will be able to feel calm and carefree. Setting up a good study environment should involve good lighting, no distractions, and a comfy space. This can all be accomplished by sitting in a cozy outfit next to a window while the rain is coming down.
The pitter-patter of rain is soothing and serves as white noise as you work. White noise can be beneficial to tune out outside distractions, ultimately contributing to the perfect working environment. You can get into the flow of your work as you listen to the streams of water, and can free your brain from outside distractions.
To prove my point as to why rainy days can be beneficial, look no further than this article. I wrote this entire story while I sat and listened to the rain. I finished this story along with all my other work within an hour, without a single interruption or reaching for my phone. This is evidence that the rain and study environment can positively impact your drive to get work done.
Overall, you’re the only one who can control your productivity. But when it rains, you should take advantage of having to stay in and create a space where you can be productive and catch up on schoolwork.
