Video notes should be banned from all BSM classes. Similar to me, you often might be home at 11:00 pm the day before a Calc test, trying to cram in all of the information from the chapter. It was hard to retain the information from the chapter because all of the in-depth notes were on video to watch at home, rather than taking lots of notes in class. This idea should be reviewed and or surveyed by students taking the test to see whether or not BSM should continue this method of teaching.
It’s one thing to have them up for students to refer back to after teachers teach a lesson, but many teachers have gone to solely video notes to teach the students. It’s not fair for students to learn from a screen when the teachers are right in front of them to teach it. From personal experience, I tend to fall behind and not learn as much when I am watching online math videos.
Some teachers have even made it where you watch the videos for homework, so you can ask questions in class.
I like to ask questions during the lesson, and try to remember every question to ask in class the next day. I also think students shouldn’t have to learn everything at night after a long day of other classes, sports, and personal life. I think we should be able to recharge and finish homework after already learning their lessons. Most teachers who do this are math teachers and math is one of the hardest subjects to learn and apply. I believe if students wanted a class where they learn from video notes, they would take a blended class. Students who are in normal teacher to student class should be required to do lessons solely in class, with work time and homework at home. I don’t think it’s fair to the students to learn through videos at home.
Not being able to ask questions during class leads to not understanding the material, getting frustrated, and losing more sleep trying to watch math tutors on YouTube to study for a math quiz the next day. This is a problem because then I get behind in other classes, I am very stressed about not knowing the material, and the spiral of retakes continues. Myself and others would like a change in classes based on these reasons.
