2016’s Trolls featuring many A-list celebrities such as Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, and James Gordon tells the story of how Poppy, the happiest Troll ever born, and the ill-humored Branch set off on a journey to rescue her friends. This movie was a hit receiving 2016 winner HMMA award. Best original song for an animated film. Trolls was also a 2016 nominee for best soundtrack album. But, will its 3rd movie in the series, Trolls: Band Together live up to its expectations?
Trolls: Band Together tells the story of how Poppy discovers that Branch was once part of the boy band ‘BroZone’ with his brothers, Floyd, John Dory, Spruce, and Clay. When Floyd is kidnapped, Branch and Poppy embark on a journey to reunite his two other brothers and rescue Floyd. Although the movie plot may seem the same as the first movie sticking with the “rescue” theme, I thought it was a very different spin on the past two Trolls movies and kept me very well entertained.
Trolls may seem targeted at a younger audience; however there are many older songs that many of the older generation may enjoy such as We are Family by: Sister Sledge, Sweet Dreams by: Eurythmics, Working 9 to 5 by: Dolly Parton, and many more. Also, many of the 1990s and 2000s boy bands were mentioned in the movie such as One Direction and NSYNC.
I think that Trolls: Band Together was a lot more interesting and entertaining than the first movie, which is usually not the case when I watch movie series. The music and abundance of comedy in the movie made it very enjoyable to watch. This movie definitely had a more musical feel to it and in my opinion, could be considered a musical.
Overall, I think Trolls: Band Together is a great movie to watch. It is suitable for all age groups and is a great family movie. I would highly recommend it.
