Benilde-St. Margaret’s is a wonderful institution where excellence has become a standard. It’s known for an assortment of different things, but most notable are the academics, which are second to none. BSM offers many different courses and from its beginning has opened up doors for its students to be successful in any profession they wish to pursue. One career choice in particular that BSM does an excellent job of preparing you for is the world of business.
The business department does a great job of offering a wide range of classes from accounting to personal financial management, making the learning experience very diverse. It helps you gain an understanding of the skills you need to be successful in the given position, whether that’s finance, accounting, marketing, and more.
Each course is taught in a unique way that sticks with the student. For example, Personal Financial Management, the course I am currently enrolled in, teaches the class mostly through simulations where the students get put in a variety of different life situations. These simulations include scenarios like opening a checking account, learning how to write and cash checks, getting an apartment, and handling money responsibly. These are all very beneficial to the students and give them a better understanding of how life outside the walls of BSM works.
The business department does an extraordinary job with the way they make the class more interesting in a subject that at times can be long and tedious. With hands-on experience through the simulations as I mentioned before, as well as hands-on experience through the stock market. Students can learn the ins and outs of investing while using actual money that has been invested by previous classes. Business classes are among the most popular courses to take at BSM for those reasons. “I have taken just about every business course BSM has to offer and have thoroughly enjoyed my time in each class. I love the teachers who bring excitement and enthusiasm to every class period making the class more fun and hands-on. Although the material in each class is different, there has been a common theme which is the amazing teachers who make the learning environment awesome,’’ senior Nick Palmer said.
All in all the business courses at BSM are exceptional, not only in setting students up for success in that profession but also in providing tools for success in everyday life as well as in other courses at BSM. For those reasons enrolling in these business courses is a no-brainer. Business classes are popular among students for a reason.
