This December is filled with many important events at Benilde-St Margaret’s. From winter sports starting up, to christmas break, everyone is excited. One of the more well-known winter events at BSM is the Holiday Ball. This year it will take place at the Calhoun Beach Club in Minneapolis. Students have the opportunity to dress up however they would like, whether it be more casual or formal.
Every year the holiday ball has a new theme and this year is Tropical Holiday. Many students found it difficult to coordinate their outfits with this year’s theme. “When I think of the holiday ball, I’d get a more wintery dress but I feel like since the theme is tropical I don’t know if I should wear a nice dress or go with the sundress style,” sophomore Hannah Miller said.
Student council plays a big role in planning and organizing the holiday ball. While the holiday ball may not be at the school this year, the student council still spends countless hours setting up decorations, planning appetizers they will be serving, and other fun activities. “We spent three hours the other day, and then we’re doing two to three hours another day then two more hours on the day of the ball…we also pick out all the appetizers to see if they fit in our budget,” junior student council member Scarlett Lira said.
Many students may be wondering what the holiday ball is like? What should you expect? “Holiday ball is just if you want to go…it’s not as important as homecoming or prom,” junior Ella Adams said.
Along with dress up themes prior to the ball, many other fun events happen each day at school. Some of these events include sending out candy grams, coronation, and many more. “We also do candy grams, which takes a lot of time because we have to send them out,” Lira said.
This year many students have different opinions on the holiday ball. “Last year, it was not everyone’s favorite. It’s fewer numbers this year because we don’t have a dinner. This year we have appetizers so it’s more like a cocktail hour. It’s just a different vibe this year,” Lira said.
