Aaron Roger’s Transfer to the Jets

Fair Use

Aaron Rogers was the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers for 18 seasons but will now play for the New York Jets.

Monday, April 24th of 2023 marked one of the most significant trades this year. Aaron Rodgers who has played for the Green Bay Packers for 18 years was traded to the New York Jets.

The trade includes the Packers getting a 2023 first-round draft pick, second-round draft pick, sixth-round draft pick, and a conditional second-round draft pick in next year’s draft, which can become a first-round draft pick if Rogers plays 65 percent of the snaps this year. The Jets received Aaron Rodgers and a fifth-round draft pick in the most recent draft.

As a Green Bay Packers fan, I am excited about this trade. Rodgers’ contract was 3 years for $150,815,000 all guaranteed. By getting rid of Rodgers, the team frees up a lot of cap space, saving about $10 million from the trade. Additionally, this trade allows the team to get rid of Aaron Rogers who is not a mobile quarterback, does not show up to mandatory minicamp, and does not work with the young wide receivers that the Packers have in the off-season. With him gone, Jordan Love will be more visible. Love displays all the positive characteristics that Rogers does not. I am excited that the Packers will have a younger and fresher quarterback going into next season.

This trade positively affects Jorden Love as he is now the starter quarterback. Jordan Love was drafted in the first round, and usually in these circumstances, one would expect to play. However, because the Packers already had Rogers as starting quarterback, Love was forced to sit and wait. Now because Aaron Rogers was traded Jorden Love can be the number one quarterback and show the world what he can do.

This trade also positively impacted Aaron Rodgers. The reason is that the Jets are equipped with a lot of good weapons at wide receiver like Garret Wilson, Allen Lazard, and Cory Davis. Rodgers wants to play with a team that is stocked with pass catchers and the Jets are. He also wants to try and win a Supper Bowel and the Jets are in a good position to do that.

Although I am excited about the trade, I am also disappointed by how it worked out. While the team got a lot of trades, none of them were first-round draft picks. When the Seattle Seahawks traded away Russel Wilson to the Denver Broncos they got a boatload for him. However, Russel Wilson struggled in his first year with the Broncos, and I think because of that the Jets were a little worried about trading too much for Aaron Rogers.
