Hailee Steinfield plays a newly introduced character (Kate Bishop) who is saved by Hawkeye in the 2012 attack on New York in the first Avengers movie. After being saved, Hawkeye becomes her idol and Bishop falls in love with the bow and arrow. Unfortunately for Bishop, her father was killed in the New York attack leaving her and her mother alone. Bishop has trouble letting go of her dad and is not a fan of her new step-father. Quickly in the show, we see that Bishop lives on her own and easily finds her way into trouble, as one of the first scenes shows her losing a bet and destroying a clock tower. Barton is introduced to us playing a father figure, as the first time we see him he is with his family at an Avengers play. He sees black Widow in the play and experiences some trauma and has to step outside for air. In the first episode, we learn that Barton is struggling to deal with the death of his best friend Natasha Romanoff. We also learn that Barton is going deaf and needs a hearing aid because of all the loud experiences from being an Avenger.
Bishop is introduced to us as a young girl struggling in the world having been left with just her mother. Midway through the first episode, Bishop is at a Christmas party with her mother where she hears some suspicious things going on between her mother and an old friend. She follows him only to find a secret auction taking place underground that is later attacked by thieves. At the auction, the suit of Ronan, a character played by Barton, is being auctioned off. We see Ronan in Avengers endgame after half the world is erased. Ronan is who Hawkeye becomes after his family is erased and who we see Natasha find and save while fighting part of a mob in a foreign country. He wore a different suit that got him the name Ronan known for viciously taking down criminals throughout different cities.
When the Ronan suit is blown in Bishop’s direction we quickly see her jump into action as she puts the suit on and takes down the thieves at the auction. She is spotted by cameras leaving the scene and is shown on the news for Barton to see from his hotel, and is left suspicious of who might be in his old suit. After continuing to investigate the men at the auction, Bishop is jumped by the robbers on her way home. Right as it seems there is no escape, a mysterious man comes in and takes out the criminals. Bishop is introduced to Barton as a criminal in his old suit but he quickly finds out she is just a young girl trying to look out for her mother.
This show features some great action and leaves an exciting plot that has a lot of room to work with at the end of the first episode. It will be fun to see what happens with Barton and Bishop and how their relationship progresses. Barton already has three kids of his own, but Bishop hasn’t had a father figure in many years and Barton seems to be developing into filling that role. The show has introduced many mysteries already, such as why was there a secret auction being held with secret items, why was it robbed, and how is Bishop’s new step-father involved? This season will feature four more episodes making eight in total. If you want to find out what happens next in this action packed thriller, episodes one through four are streaming now on Disney Plus.
