Anyone who has a birthday during March, April and possibly May, will undeniably have an interesting birthday this year, or at least a memorable one. When it comes to celebrating during COVID-19, it can seem almost impossible. Being quarantined during your birthday can be disappointing, but students at BSM have tried to make the best out of it.

For those who have a special birthday this year, being in quarantine can be a crummy and disappointing way to celebrate. It can make that special day not so special. “Honestly, my birthday was pretty sad. It was the first couple of days of quarantine, and I wasn’t used to it yet. It was my sweet sixteen and my golden birthday, so I was upset that I couldn’t celebrate like normal,” sophomore Avery Richardson said.

Many sophomores were hoping to get their license during this time. Now that the DMV is closed for at least another month, there is some disappointment for those who were hoping to finally be able to drive without a guardian. “It made me feel quite annoyed that my test got cancelled because I have been waiting really long to get my license,” sophomore Maggie Amaris said.

I was supposed to go to Colorado on my birthday this year as well. I was sad at first but then I just got over it because I couldn’t change it.

People who have traditions for birthdays most likely weren’t able to carry those plans out. Many students at BSM celebrate with their families by going out to eat, traveling or doing something fun outside of the house. “I was supposed to go to Colorado on my birthday this year as well. I was sad at first but then I just got over it because I couldn’t change it,” sophomore Leo Warner said.

The unusual situation means there is no going out to eat at a restaurant or having a party with friends. Most students who have a birthday during the pandemic are celebrating with family at home. Take-out from restaurants or homemade meals are going to have to do for now. “My parents want to get take-out, but I’m not entirely sure of where yet. The dinner part is still the same but sadly this year I can’t do anything with friends until after quarantine,” junior Ananya Yogarajah said.

Regardless, any celebration during this time is undeniably going to be a unique one.
