The best YouTubers started at the bottom and slowly moved up to where they are now wealthy and successful. In an age of various forms of digital entertainment, YouTube has risen in popularity, and many video-creators have become tremendously wealthy through the website. They all have inspirational stories that show they have worked very hard throughout the growth of their careers. These five YouTubers, especially, have affected the lives of BSM students.

One YouTube star who many BSM students enjoy is Michelle Phan. At only thirty years old, Michelle Phan set fire to her YouTube career through fashion and beauty. Her YouTube community of watchers is a growing eight million subscribers. Her videos have been viewed more than one billion times total, so that makes her one of the most watched talents on social media. Phan was also the first-ever YouTube star to receive the Streamy ICON award. In addition, she makes a lot of money off of her makeup company, Ipsy. Her videos seem to interest people of all ages because of her creative makeup tactics and amazing editing skills in her videos.

Jenna Marbles is a YouTube icon who just recently reached 2.6 billion views on her videos and 18 million subscribers on YouTube. She is an American YouTube personality, vlogger, comedian, and actress. Once Marbles reached 18 million subscribers, she became the 32nd most subscribed to channel on YouTube and the second most popular channel operated by a woman.

Marbles started her career with Barstool Sports and continued to increase in popularity. Her videos are hilarious and are always good for brightening up anyone’s day. “Ever since 5th grade, whenever I’m having a bad day I watch Jenna Marbles and she makes me laugh out loud and I’m automatically happier!” senior Natalie Kroll said.

PewDiePie is a Swedish YouTube personality, web-based comedian, and video producer. He’s known for the “Let’s Play” commentaries and vlogs as well as his following on YouTube. The person who started this YouTube channel is 20 year old Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg. He has a growing 62 million subscribers to his channel. He also makes $1.2 million a year. Some of his most viewed videos are Harlem Shake Fail, Draw My Life, and Funny Gaming Montage. “He is super funny, I’ve always loved his videos and watch them in my free time,” senior Ian Mathison said.

Another famous YouTuber is Lily Signh, better known for her username IISuperwomanII. Since she started her channel in October 2010, her videos have received 2 billion views and she has 13 million subscribers.  Lily is known at our school for her comedy sketches and crazy, funny rants.

A lot of students at BSM are big fans of the YouTuber star Casey Neistat. He is an American actor and YouTube personality, filmmaker, and vlogger. He is 37 years old and married with a child. Casey’s life was very hard in his early teens because his parents got divorced, then his mom kicked him out when he was 15 years old.  Casey never graduated high school because he had a child at the age of 17 with the girl he was living with. Once his baby was born, he started recording videos of the baby at the zoo or at the pool. This is where he became interested in filmmaking. In his later years, he and his brother, also known as the “Neistat Brothers,” started their own HBO series. After that, his success only grew, and his story became an inspiration to amateur filmmakers. “Not only is Casey a good filmmaker, he also helps other creators develop and find their own passions….and he has really cool sunglasses,” senior Ingrid Lundberg said.
