Over the summer, the BSM maintenance staff renovated many different areas in the school building. Some of the major renovations included the new bathrooms and the purchase and instillation of new Promethean boards. Along with several other minor changes, the renovations have helped update and maintain the school by giving it a twenty-first century facelift.

The most notable renovations in the building were the bathrooms. “The two Haben bathrooms, along with the main girl’s bathroom, were completely redone.  We also did a few things to the main boy’s bathroom to keep it up to date,” principal Susan Skinner said.

For many years, BSM had been looking to renovate the bathrooms, but had to wait until this summer to do them. “We try to assess how long we can wait to do renovations. With the bathrooms, it was really important that we got those done because we needed new bathrooms,” Skinner said.

Another renovation that took place was the installation of new Promethean boards. Most of the English classrooms previously only had projectors, screens, and white boards, so new mobile Promethean boards were brought in, as opposed to ones built into the wall found in other departments. “[The boards] are like the next version of the projector. They have touchscreen features, and they can also be used with computers and interactive technology,” Skinner said.

In the future, these boards could possibly replace the ones installed into other classrooms. “The vision is that, if we need to replace a projector, we can just bring in these boards. They’re a lot more convenient than the projectors,” Skinner said.

Along with the bathrooms and boards, there were also a variety of other minor renovations as well. “We replaced some sections of the roofs. There are new carpeting and desks in classrooms. We got some new windows, and just had some other maintenance done in the building,” Skinner said.

As BSM looks to the future for new renovations, one possible change could be made in the cafeteria. “I would love to see the cafeteria renovated. It’s not something that could happen anytime within the next 5 years, but I think it would really cool to have an outdoor area at some point,” Skinner said.
