After being ranked number one all season, the girls’ soccer team lost their first game of the year on Nov. 3, falling 1-0 to Blake in the state championship game. The Red Knights knew the game would be a defensive struggle, with both starting goalies giving up fewer than ten goals all season. The game was uneventful for almost all of the first half, with neither team getting many chances to score. But just 24 seconds before halftime, the Bears slid one past senior goal keeper Mikayla Coulombe, a member of the all-tournament team, to give them the lead going into the break. BSM had many opportunities, bombarding the Blake goal with solid efforts by many players, but they ran out of time, giving Blake their second girls’ soccer championship.
