Part two of season four of Outer Banks has finally arrived! Outer Banks has had three successful seasons under its belt, and Season 4 finished with a bang.
The producers never fail to have as many action-packed scenes as possible. What stands out this season is the elevation of the stakes, both geographically and personally. The characters continuously travel to different locations and get themselves wrapped up in risky situations. There was little that the producers accomplished in this season (which I will get to shortly) but nonetheless, the action never stopped. You will always want to watch the next episode, as almost all end on a cliffhanger.
Despite its potential, the second half of the season was chaotic, and the plotline didn’t add up. This season brought an entirely new addition to the storyline. The difference between season 1 and season 4 of this show is drastic. I would have thought the whole plot changed. They moved away from what everyone loved: the insight into the Pogues’ adventurous lives and the lighthearted scenes, and switched to a show that focused more on materialistic things, instead of emphasizing relationships between the characters. The plotline has changed dramatically since the show’s beginning, and I’m not a fan of it.
The Pogue’s main goal this season was to lay low and have, as their motto says, “good time, all the time.” But when they got wrapped up in the chaos of Groff and the Blue Crown, it all went downhill from there. I can’t help but imagine how different the season would have played out if it had been just them living their teenage years to the fullest.
Yet again, they didn’t get the treasure they spent the whole season trying to find. The story and show have become predictable because every season has ended similarly. I think the writers should have mixed up the plot this season, rather than repeating the same storyline.
The core group of Pogues continues to grow in ways that are believable and heartfelt. The unconditional love and care they feel for one another is something that I think is rare to express in a TV show, and it’s displayed incredibly well.
With that said, from the predictable storyline to the disappointing show production, season four didn’t impress me overall. Season five will have difficulty making a comeback, but hopefully, the writers can pull something promising together.
