As of May 22nd, the graduating class of 2024 completed their last day of high school, leaving the class of 2025 to take on the senior’s roles and privileges for the next school year. The current junior class has shown general excitement over their new privileges, from new parking privileges to decorating senior overalls.
New parking privileges are a benefit that students are particularly thrilled about. Now that the seniors have left, juniors have the ability to park in the main parking lot instead of the Beth El Synagogue lot. One of the benefits of this is not having to walk across the street every morning, no matter what the weather entails. “I am definitely looking forward to parking in the senior lot,” junior Katie Berthoud said.
Many juniors are anxiously excited to gain their off-campus privileges during their free hours. With this ability, students can leave campus during their free hour to get food, take a study break, or even catch up on some sleep. This is a privilege that only seniors enjoy, and many underclassmen look forward to. “I’m looking forward to being able to leave during free hours and sleep in or leave early,” junior Scarlett Lira said.
In addition to off-campus privileges, juniors look forward to participating in BSM senior traditions, such as creating senior overalls, an emblem of BSM pride. Senior girls are encouraged to purchase a pair of overalls and decorate them with patches, ribbons, and glitter. Oftentimes, they will put their nickname or a title that they are known for in high school on their overalls, along with different patches to embody their own personalities. On dress-up days or big game days, these overalls pervade the halls, showcasing each of the senior girls’ creativity and BSM pride. Many current juniors expressed their excitement to get together with their friends this summer and decorate their overalls, so they are prepared for all the festivities at the beginning of their senior year. “I think making the overalls and wearing them to school will be really fun,” junior Midge Sanderson said.
In addition to the privileges that the class of 2025 is to gain as they get closer to their senior year, it is also a responsibility to be adequate role models for the BSM community. Seniors, being the oldest students, are expected to embody the Red Knight spirit and rise as exemplars to younger students, especially incoming freshmen. “I think I would expect [upcoming seniors] to be good people, and just to realize the important role they play in the culture of the school as the oldest members of the community and those that have been here the longest. They are exemplars to the younger students of what it means to be a Red Knight,” Assistant Principal Michael Kautzman said.
From parking privileges to the numerous senior traditions, there is lots for the class of 2025 to look forward to in the upcoming school year, along with the responsibility to set a good example of the Red Knight community.
