On Wednesday, May 1st, various BSM alums will return to their old stomping grounds. Current seniors will participate in the annual alumni breakfast. There was a lot of planning that took place for this event, and alums love coming back to share insight, give advice, and make connections with BSM’s seniors.
This event was created by Mary Frann O’Keefe and Rachel Kuzma Olson eight years ago. It allows the seniors to network and meet alums, while also connecting with their classmates. A senior is asked to help pick tables, where each student will have one friend. There will be seven students at each table and two to three alums at each. Following breakfast, there is an alum speaker. This year, Elle (Marielle) Mohs, class of ’09, will share her thoughts with the seniors. Mohs is a news and sports reporter for WCCO TV. “It’s so nice for the seniors to witness the strength of the Red Knight community through the alums. Hopefully the seniors understand their connection to the larger community and the bond that all Red Knights share,” O’Keefe said.
Breakfast will start at 8:00 a.m. in the Haben Center, beginning with prayer lead by campus minister, Mike Jeremiah. The event will last an hour and a half, and seniors are encouraged to participate and ask questions during that time. Furthermore, senior Adam Backman is looking forward to meeting Creighton University alums, where he will be attending school next year. “I’m going to try to find all the ones who went to Creighton and talk in depth about how their college experience was and their post college life,” Backman said.
In addition to talking with past alums, seniors will have the opportunity to wear a shirt of the university they will be attending next year. If you ask any senior, it has been a stressful past couple of months. Though it was hard to decide, students are eager to show off their choice. Most students have made their college decision and future plans, whether that be joining the military, taking a gap year, or going to play sports before college. Students will take pictures in their college shirts and enjoy breakfast with their classmates and the alums. This is an amazing way for students to celebrate their hard work and dedication to their education. Senior Raegan Conaty is also excited to connect with her peers and elaborate on their future plans. “I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and where they’re going to college, especially those who haven’t posted on Instagram yet,” Conaty said.
